PRAY FOR REVIVAL
Over the last two thousand years, the church experienced many revivals, renewals, and reformation movements. Each has added a wealth of experience and understanding to the ways in which the Holy Spirit moves revealing the power of Almighty God.
The bible says in Acts 2:1-4, “And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”
We need the Pentecostal fire to burn within our churches today. We need a revival within us – a spiritual renewal in our nation, our community, and our churches?
Days of trouble such as the world has never known are upon us. The world is being invaded by the forces of evil as Satan uses his cunning schemes against the body of Christ. He waits for opportunities to betray us, and to catch us by the use of deception. The Apostle Paul says, “We are not unaware of his schemes.”
God is calling us to fast and pray, laying everything else aside and seek the Lord till He comes and rains righteousness upon us. “Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.” (Hosea 10:12)
When we turn to the Scriptures, we find that God’s people often prayed for renewal and for revival of their faith. We hear David praying, “For the sake of Your Name, O LORD, revive me.”
Many people cite the coldness of the people of God, the modernism and infidelity in various church leaders. The wide-spread appeal of pleasure, and the outrageous wickedness on every hand as evidence that God cannot or will not send revival today. NOT SO!
But, when we are ready and willing to pay the price that God has ordained for revival, then through GOD we will have revival.
The revival at Nineveh was one of the greatest in history. Nineveh was a heathen city. We read that they worshipped the fish God. The city was so wicked that God said to Jonah, “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me” (Jonah 1:2). The city seemed almost past hope of redemption. Yet, when God got one man ready to preach in the city, the king, the nobles, and the people repented in sackcloth and ashes and pleaded for God’s mercy until the Lord repented of His plan to destroy it; and God did not destroy the city.
If God could send a mighty revival in Nineveh, surely God can send revival in Baltimore, Maryland the United States of America and the world, where sin is so rampant when we make up our minds to see God’s face and pray for revival. We must search our hearts for the removal of every sin in us that is hindering revival. Let us fast and pray as we turn to him and confess our failures and faults and seek to make restitution. Prayer is our super weapon. “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds; casting down of imagination, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.”
(2 Corinthians 10:4-5)
